WHO WE ARE

Meet the Owner

Bese Saka was inspired by a personal vision of mine to reconnect with the land of my ancestors in Africa. I’ve always recognized the richness in its people, beauty, culture, and vast artisanship. African traditions are represented all across the continent in its highly sought after sculpture art, paintings, beading and hand crafts such as traditional basket weaving. The age long tradition of basket weaving and spirit of my ancestors inspired the creation of Bese Saka to showcase the elegance and captivating vibrancy of West African woven products for the world to enjoy! Its been an amazing journey to bring this vision to life and its truly been a dream realized.

Thank you for believing,
Nakiya
OUR STORY

A Piece of Ancestral Lands

Bese Saka (pronounced Beh-seh Sah-kah) is a Ghanian adinkra symbol translating to “sack of cola nuts'' and is associated with affluence, power, and abundance. The cola nut played an important role in the economic life of Ghana as a widely-used cash crop.

The vision of Besa Saka is to continue this tradition of affluence by sharing the richness of African culture through its vibrant woven products. We value traditional skills and will do everything we can to help artisanal communities to thrive. Every purchase at Bese Saka generates meaningful income for the makers and their families. All of our products are ‘Made in Ghana’ and will remain just that as we share the artistry of our ancestors with the world.  Let's all embrace and celebrate the beauty of African culture!
